Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Montgomery County SPCA!

The following are descriptions of the responsibilities and duties of each classification.

Kennel

  • Duties - Volunteers in this group most closely handle the animals in our care. They help feed, clean and show animals.
  • Times - 8am to 5pm (Minimum of 2 hours)
  • Weekends - After 3-6 months of volunteering
  • Evenings - None available
  • Age - 16 years and older (14 years will be considered for school projects only.)

Office

  • Duties - Volunteers in this group answer phones and assist customers in surrender and adoption or animals. They also take reports of lost animals.
  • Times - 8am to 5pm (Minimum of 2 hours)
  • Weekends - After 3-6 months of volunteering
  • Evenings - None available
  • Age - 18 years and older

Secretarial

  • Duties - Volunteers in this group count register tapes from Acme, Genuardi's or Redner's. These store donate a percentage of the total to the shelter. We also have a group who clips cancelled stamps. These volunteers may occasionally be asked to come in
  • Times - Your own to set. Pick-up from any of the three locations.
  • Weekends - Yes
  • Evenings - Yes
  • Age - 12 years and older

Mobil Adoption Unit

  • Duties - Volunteers in this group take animals to local malls and events. They help show animals, often older, in an effort to place these animals.
  • Times - Generally mall hours. A minimum of one weekend a month.
  • Weekends - Yes. Friday, Saturday & Sunday.
  • Evenings - Yes. Friday & Saturday
  • Age - 16 years and older

Pet Therapy

  • Duties - Volunteers in this group take their own certified therapy animals to senior care & day care facilities for pet therapy. Volunteers must complete a two-day training course with our Humane Educator prior to beginning.
  • Times - 8am to 5pm
  • Weekends - None available
  • Evenings - None available
  • Age - 18 years and older.
